turret
Turret is shorthand for "Gun turret," a weapon platform that protects the operator, sometimes fully encasing him or her. They are able to rotate to aim in different directions and are seen on armored vehicles, ships, aircraft, and on the ground, in many different sizes and weapon categories. Science fiction also has many examples of autonomous turrets.
